    Frequently asked questions

    What is Hypnosis?2018-06-04T14:49:01+10:00

Hypnosis is when we are able to bypass the critical faculty and apply suggestive thinking. This is done by calming the primal limbic system (our fight or flight response) and with the use of relaxation we move from the beta to the alpha brain wave state. This experience will be different for everyone, the level of ‘relaxation’ or depth of ‘state’ is personal to each person, however change can and does take place irrespective of how ‘deep’ someone goes into hypnosis.

    Who can be hypnotised?2018-06-04T14:24:50+10:00

Anyone who can pay attention and follow instructions can be hypnotised if they want to be. People will vary however, as to the extent or depth to which they can go into trance. Irrespective of the depth of trance, positive change can still take place.

Are some people just not able to be hypnotised?2018-06-04T14:33:32+10:00

Anyone who can daydream can be hypnotised if he is willing. Nobody can be hypnotised against his will. If a person is not willing to cooperate, he cannot be hypnotised. It is important to be open to the experience and have the desire to make positive change.

Hypnosis is NOT about the hypnotist controlling the client. It is about the client gaining more control over himself/herself. The Hypnotist is merely the facilitator guiding the process.

Can a person be hypnotised against their will?2018-06-04T14:15:46+10:00

No. You cannot be hypnotized against your will. You must be a willing subject. Your hypnotist must have your full cooperation.

Will a hypnotised person perform any anti-social, criminal or immoral acts while under Hypnosis?2018-06-04T14:17:51+10:00

No. People who are hypnotised will not do anything in Hypnosis that they would not do in the waking state. When you are in hypnosis, you are aware of everything that is going on and you continue to retain your values and morals.

Can a person in Hypnosis be made to bark like a dog or cluck like a chicken?2018-06-04T14:49:11+10:00

No. This is not what happens in Therapeutic or Clinical Hypnosis. On the other hand, volunteers during a Stage Hypnosis Show, which is for entertainment purposes only, will typically go along with the Stage Hypnotist’s suggestions as long as it is all in good fun and for entertainment purposes. This is not the context of Clinical Hypnosis.
